Hydrotherapy at Adelaide Active
Hydrotherapy is a water-based therapy used by Exercise Physiologists, Physiotherapists, and Allied Health Assistants for exercise, rehabilitation, restoration and relaxation.
Water has the unique ability to decrease the effects of gravity, making movement more comfortable, while the warm water helps your muscles relax, reducing joint stress and encouraging healing.
Our 16m x 8m pool temperature is set at a consistently warm 34ºC all year round, supplying the perfect environment for rehabilitation and exercise. There are also gentle steps and a lifter for people with mobility challenges.
Hydrotherapy can help young children, toddlers, adults, and the elderly to improve their range of motion, balance, mobility, and strength and manage their sensory sensitivities.
Our accredited Exercise Physiologists, Physiotherapists, and Allied Health Assistants specialise in delivering individualized programs for clients with a range of chronic conditions, injuries, illnesses, and disabilities. There are also group therapies and exercises classes available.
If you are ready to take the first step to experience the benefits of hydrotherapy, contact us today on 08 7089 6666 to book a consultation with one of our Exercise Physiologists, Physiotherapists, or Allied Health Assistants.
Benefits of Hydrotherapy
The warm water and its thermogenic (heating) effects on muscles, nerves, and joints give a safe, comfortable and enjoyable environment to progress through your customised program.
Benefits include:
- Mental Wellbeing - Otherwise immobile patients are able to move with more freedom and exercise with reduced pain levels providing mental relief.
- Reduced load bearing on the joints - when exercising in waist-deep water, the buoyancy reduces your weight to less than half.
- Improves balance and reduces the risk of falling - balance exercises you may be afraid of doing on land can be done safely in the water.
- Reduced muscle tightness and aches - the warmth of the water promotes the relaxation of your muscles which helps to reduce muscle spasms.
- Improved blood circulation - the warm water causes the blood vessels to widen which can improve blood circulation to the areas of pain. This helps to improve mobility through an increased range of motion.
- Increased fitness and muscle strength - water creates resistance to help build muscle strength. These exercises can also be progressed to include floatation devices making it harder.
- Reduce pain and swelling - the hydrostatic pressure of the water reduces swelling while exercising and post-exercise muscle soreness.
- Weight Management and Weight Loss - burn more calories than land based exercises because of water resistence.
