Adelaide Active Rehab & Therapy tailors your integrated wellness journey to optimise health.

Chronic Pain affects 1 in 5 Australians over the age of 45. Musculoskeletal pain (spinal pain, osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia etc) that persists for longer than three months is referred to as Chronic Musculoskeletal Pain.

Because everybody’s pain is different, individualised treatment plans to help manage their own chronic pain.  While it may seem logical to avoid exercise when you are in pain if you are less active, over time you may lose muscle tone, flexibility, and general strength.

Research tells us that exercise is an important component of the treatment plan for Chronic Pain.  It helps us to rebuild confidence, improve movement and improve other by-products of persistent pain such as fear, anxiety, and stress.

Physiotherapists and Exercise Physiologists can design a treatment and rehabilitation plan that can help you learn to move your body safely and progress at your own speed.

At Adelaide Active Rehab and Therapy, our Allied Health team will work with your GP and medical specialists to tailor a plan to help you cope with your chronic pain and improve your ability to cope with and enjoy the activities of everyday life.

Benefits of Hydrotherapy for Pain Management

Hydrotherapy, also known as water therapy, is the use of water-based exercises and activities to improve physical function and relieve chronic pain. This type of therapy has been used for centuries to help individuals with a wide range of conditions, including arthritis, fibromyalgia, and chronic back pain.

One of the main benefits of hydrotherapy is that the buoyancy of the water helps to support the body and reduce pressure on the joints. This can make it easier for individuals to perform exercises that they may not be able to do on land, such as walking or cycling. The water also provides resistance, which can help to strengthen the muscles and improve overall physical function.

In addition to the physical benefits, hydrotherapy can also have a positive effect on an individual’s mental health. The warm water can help to relax the muscles and reduce tension, leading to improved mood and a sense of well-being. The social aspect of group water therapy can also provide a sense of community and support for individuals dealing with chronic pain.

Overall, hydrotherapy can be a valuable tool in the management of chronic pain. By providing support, resistance, and a sense of relaxation, it can help individuals improve their physical function and quality of life.
